So hearing the word or concentrating on the word is so significant for our faith. The reason to look unto Jesus (concentrate on the word of God), is because knowing what the word says is the only way we can believe them and what we believe in the word of God is what we can act on. So Jesus who is God's word as contained in the scriptures is what we should, as believers always look unto, to fulfill our purpose too. Jesus is God's word that manifested in human form on earth and who achieved his purpose of manifestation without fail. What does it mean to look unto Jesus? It means to look unto the word of God, because Jesus is the word of God "In the beginning was the Word ( Christ), and the Word was with God, and the Word was God Himself." JOHN 1:1 AMP. So why then should we look unto him? Moreso we have been told that faith comes by hearing and hearing the word of God? Does these two scriptures contradict themselves or they compliment themselves? We will try to find out the realities to these questions as they help enhance our faith in God through Jesus Christ knowing that without faith, it is impossible to please God. So, what does it meana to look unto Jesus and what does he is the author and finisher of our faith means? Simply put, it means Jesus is the beginning and the completion of our faith. Are we to have faith by looking unto Jesus? Yet, the Bible says, "looking into Jesus, the author and finisher odour faith". Therefore having faith and sustaining one's faith is very valuable in the kingdom's work. Faith is simply putting God's word to action or acting on God's word, believing in his ability to perform or do what he says he will do in such word. To live life in the kingdom is according to one's faith, and to please God by whatever definition, one must have faith. ![]() Thus making faith a priority for every Christian and believers in Christ. And that without faith, it is impossible to please God. Just remembering those times of victory will strengthen us to endure present or future distress. It is a known biblical fact that the just shall live by his own faith. We held on then and came through with the Lord’s help. ![]() Most of us who have been Christians for any length of time can remember times when we struggled to remain faithful and were challenged strongly. "Recall the former days in which, after you were enlightened, you endured a great struggle with sufferings" (Hebrews 10:32). The Hebrew writer suggests another thing we can do to help us endure. It’s a fact that when we encourage others to endure, we feel more encouraged ourselves. We should also try ourselves to give encouragement. This is not just a simple matter of being encouraged by others. This is one way that he helps us all to endure. We should also "consider how to stimulate one another to love and good works" (Hebrews 10:24) Jesus uses each of us to encourage others. Through the intercession of Jesus we are able to "hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful" (Hebrews 10:23).Ĭhrist’s example of faithfulness through every trial and temptation, helps us to confidently trust him and continue to follow him to the end. "Therefore do not cast away your confidence which has great reward" (Hebrews 10:35). ![]() The example of Jesus "who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross (Hebrews 12:2) helps us to continue on the true path through every difficulty. He then says, "Consider him who endured such hostility from sinners against himself, lest you become weary and discouraged in your souls" (Hebrews 12:3). The Hebrew writer says, "You have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise" (Hebrews 10:36). We should run our race with endurance, looking unto Jesus (who himself suffered), and to the glories of his kingdom. Why does God allow this? We should see this not as abandonment by God, but as Fatherly discipline to correct and strengthen us (yet not taking that analogy further than intended). The Christian life is fraught with temptation to sin and with much struggle and suffering. Every day Jesus is helping this story to be finished, and we should consider how he is doing this. Jesus is an author who finishes his work.Ĭhrist’s work is to perfect our faith, so we may endure through many trials until finally glory comes and we live happily ever after. No story is any good if the author starts it but does not finish it. In one passage Jesus is called "the author and finisher of our faith" (Hebrews 12:2). ![]() Now we look at passages toward the end of the letter to the Hebrews where the writer pleads with us to "consider" our endurance and perseverance in the faith. Jesus the Author and Perfecter of Our Faith
